“The Recess” by Director Navid Nikkhah Azad competes in 5th Festival Politica in Portugal, which took place from April 22-25, 2021.
“The Recess” marks its 19th international appearance at Festival Politica in Portugal.
Festival Politica is Movie and cultural festival about polical issues, human rights and activism.
The main theme for the 5th Festival Politica is Borders, walls, migrations.
The festival screens films related to borders, migrations, social movements, youth movements, human rights, inspiring stories of who wants to change the society, politics and economy.
The program includes films, debates, workshops, art and activities for children.
“The Recess” competes in the Short Films competition section of the festival.
“The Recess”, tells the story of Seventeen-year-old Sahar, who is determined to watch her favorite soccer team play for the league championship. Barred from attending sports events as a woman, Sahar disguises herself as a boy with the help of her friends. Things take a tragic turn when Sahar’s disguise is uncovered. Inspired by true events, The Recess explores gender oppression in Iranian society.
“The Recess” has been screened in 19 international film festivals, earning Best Performance award from the 33rd Living Skies Film Festival (2021) in Canada.
