“The Recess” by Director Navid Nikkhah Azad competes in the 18th Salento International Film Festival, which runs from September 7-12, 2021 in Lecce, Italy.
“The Recess” marks its 33rd international appearance at Salento International Film Festival in Italy.
Salento International Film Festival Is a celebration of films and filmmakers, promotes international independent films, in recognition of the fact that movies are the most powerful form of cultural communication and link between ‘cultures’ and ‘peoples’.
Founded in 2004 by Luigi Campanile, the Salento International Film Festival emerged as a major cultural event and the top film festival in South Italy.
Each year it introduces filmmakers worldwide to the Salento area’s unique resources, while celebrating the history and future of the film industry with 6 days of world premieres, special events, seminars, feature films, short films, documentaries.
“The Recess” is set to screen in the official competition section of “Short-Films in Streaming” at the 18th Salento International Film Festival in Italy.
“The Recess”, tells the story of Seventeen-year-old Sahar, who is determined to watch her favorite soccer team play for the league championship. Barred from attending sports events as a woman, Sahar disguises herself as a boy with the help of her friends. Things take a tragic turn when Sahar’s disguise is uncovered. Inspired by true events, The Recess explores gender oppression in Iranian society.
“The Recess” has been screened in 33 international film festivals, earning 10 nominations, and 4 awards.
