“The Recess” by Director Navid Nikkhah Azad competes in 18th FECISO (Festival Internacional de Cine Social de Castilla-la Mancha), which runs from October 1 – December 14, 2021 in Torrijos, Spain.
“The Recess” marks its 40th international appearance in FECISO in Spain.
FECISO (Festival de Cine Social de Castilla-la Mancha) was born in Toledo in 2003.
FECISO aims to make awareness about the importance of audiovisual media in Spanish society today and promoting the values of solidarity and tolerance.
The festival takes place in Torrijos; a Spanish municipality of Toledo province, in the autonomous community of Castile-La Mancha.
The International Social Film Festival of Castilla-La Mancha (FECISO) is characterized by its social theme. It is an alternative cinema called “non-commercial”, but as the Society develops, it is essential that there will be spaces like this, to spread and follow to the surface, all the injustices that will never end.
The main theme of the festival, social issues, includes:

- Domestic violence
- Social roles
- Ecology
- Children´s rights
- Coexistence.
“The Recess”, tells the story of Seventeen-year-old Sahar, who is determined to watch her favorite soccer team play for the league championship. Barred from attending sports events as a woman, Sahar disguises herself as a boy with the help of her friends. Things take a tragic turn when Sahar’s disguise is uncovered. Inspired by true events, The Recess explores gender oppression in Iranian society.
