Tehran (NAVID AZAD) – “The Recess” by Director Navid Nikkhah Azad competes in Sakarya International Short Film Festival in Turkey.
“The Recess” by Director Navid Nikkhah Azad competes in the 7th Sakarya International Short Film Festival (Sakarya Uluslararası Kısa Film Festivali) in Turkey, which runs from October 12-14, 2021 in Turkey.
“The Recess” marks its 45th international appearance in Sakarya International Short Film Festival in Turkey.
Sakarya International Short Film Festival was founded in 2015 by Sakarya University (SAU) Faculty of Communication.
The festival started under the name of “Golden Pumpkin” until the 5th edition in 2020. In 2020, the name was changed to Sakarya International Short Film Festival to identify with the city of Sakarya and contribute to the development of Sakarya culture.
“The Recess” competes for festival top prize with movies from Russian Federation, Greece, Turkey, USA, Slovenia and Mexico.

“The Recess” tells the story of Seventeen-year-old Sahar, who is determined to watch her favorite soccer team play for the league championship. Barred from attending sports events as a woman, Sahar disguises herself as a boy with the help of her friends. Things take a tragic turn when Sahar’s disguise is uncovered.
Inspired by true events, “The Recess” explores gender oppression in Iranian society.
