“The Recess”, acclaimed movie by Navid Nikkhah Azad has received a “Scarabeo d’Argento” nomination for Best International Short Film from the Italian Milazzo Film Festival.
“The Recess” directed by Navid Nikkhah Azad has been nominated for Best International Short Film at the 7th Milazzo Film Festival and competes with 18 other short films for the “Scarabeo d’Argento” Award of the Italian festival, which takes place in the city of Milazzo (Messina, Italy) from July 20-24.
Founded in 2006, the Milazzo Film Festival is an international film festival held annually in Sicily. The festivals screens films, documentaries and shorts connected to topical questions, anniversary celebrations and culture in general.
The Milazzo Film Festival holds an international juried competition for free-theme short films and honors the best international short film with a “Scarabeo d’Argento” Award.
The Spanish-Iranian short drama “The Recess” has competed in 107 international film festivals including FIAPF-accredited, Goya Awards qualifying festivals and Academy Award® qualifying festival around the world and has won 20 awards.

Directed by Navid Nikkhah Azad and produced by Navid Nikkhah Azad and the Spanish producer Delia Guerra Parra, “The Recess” brings the story of the self-immolated Sahar Khodayari (Iranian Blue Girl) to life.
Inspired by true events, the movie follows Sahar, a 17-year-old student who is determined to skip high school during recess to go to the football stadium to watch a football match between Esteghlal F.C. vs. Al-Ain as part of the AFC Champions League in violation of the national ban on women entering football stadiums in Iran.
