“The Recess” directed by Navid Nikkhah Azad has been selected to compete in the 5th edition of the Muestra Internacional De Cortometraje Solidario De Ciudad Real popularly known as MUICORTOS, which took place in Ciudad Real, Spain from July 11-19, 2022.
MUICORTO, or Muestra Internacional De Cortometraje Solidario De Ciudad Real, aims to be an annual event of short films and documentaries from developing countries and their development, whose main characteristic is to show the public the material produced by social organizations and independent filmmakers committed to solidarity, development cooperation, eradication of poverty, denunciation and social transformation, emphasizing the Millennium Development Goals 2015 and Sustainable Development 2030 of the United Nations.
The Spanish-Iranian short drama “The Recess” has competed in 109 international film festivals including FIAPF-accredited, Goya Awards qualifying festivals and Academy Award® qualifying festival around the world and has won 21 awards.

Directed by Navid Nikkhah Azad and produced by Navid Nikkhah Azad and the Spanish producer Delia Guerra Parra, “The Recess” brings the story of the self-immolated Sahar Khodayari (Iranian Blue Girl) to life.
Inspired by true events, the movie follows Sahar, a 17-year-old student who is determined to skip high school during recess to go to the football stadium to watch a football match between Esteghlal F.C. vs. Al-Ain as part of the AFC Champions League in violation of the national ban on women entering football stadiums in Iran.
