“The Recess” by Navid Nikkhah Azad competes in the 7th Festival Internacional de Cine de Quito (FICQ) in Ecuador.
“The Recess” directed by Navid Nikkhah Azad has been selected to go on screen in the International Short Films competition section of the 7th Festival Internacional de Cine de Quito (Quito International Film Festival) popularly known as FICQ, which takes place in Quito (Pichincha, Ecuador) from August 9-14, 2022.
The Quito International Film Festival (FICQ) was founded in 2016 by Cine Udla, the film school rooted in Universidad de Las Américas, in Quito. It’s mainly organized by students and their professors. The Festival Internacional de Cine de Quito aims to promote author cinema to a new generation and discover new talents and trends. FICQ also promotes parallel activities, which combine masterclasses, screenings and Q&As in order to encourage the cultural and artistic scene of Ecuador.
The Spanish-Iranian short drama “The Recess” has competed in 114 international film festivals including FIAPF-accredited, Goya Awards qualifying festivals and Academy Award® qualifying festival around the world and has won 21 awards.

Directed by Navid Nikkhah Azad and produced by Navid Nikkhah Azad and the Spanish producer Delia Guerra Parra, “The Recess” brings the story of the self-immolated Sahar Khodayari (Iranian Blue Girl) to life.
Inspired by true events, the movie follows Sahar, a 17-year-old student who is determined to skip high school during recess to go to the football stadium to watch a football match between Esteghlal F.C. vs. Al-Ain as part of the AFC Champions League in violation of the national ban on women entering football stadiums in Iran.
