“The Recess” directed by Navid Nikkhah Azad has been selected to go on screen in the official competition section of the 19th Corto Creativo Short Film Festival, which takes place in Tijuana (Baja California, Mexico) from September 21 to 23, 2022.
Corto Creativo International Short Film Festival (Festival y Muestra Internacional de cortometrajes Corto Creativo UDCI) is the only Festival in Baja California dedicated exclusively to Short Films and remains the oldest one in the region.
The Spanish-Iranian short drama “The Recess” has been officially selected in 126 international film festivals including FIAPF-accredited, Goya Awards qualifying festivals and Academy Award® qualifying festival around the world and has won 22 awards.

Directed by Navid Nikkhah Azad and produced by Navid Nikkhah Azad and the Spanish producer Delia Guerra Parra, “The Recess” brings the story of the self-immolated Sahar Khodayari (Iranian Blue Girl) to life.
Inspired by true events, the movie follows Sahar, a 17-year-old student who is determined to skip high school during recess to go to the football stadium to watch a football match between Esteghlal F.C. vs. Al-Ain as part of the AFC Champions League in violation of the national ban on women entering football stadiums in Iran.
