“The Recess,” inspired by true events, explores gender oppression in Iranian modern society.

The Iranian short film, “The Recess,” tells the story of a girl banned from stadium.

Mojan Kordi, starting as Sahar, is determined to watch her favorite soccer team play for the league championship. Barred from attending sports events as a woman, Sahar disguises herself as a boy with the help of her friends. Things take a tragic turn when Sahar’s disguise is uncovered.

“The Recess,” goes on screen in the International Fiction Short Films competition at the 21st Cine Lebu.

The winners in the CINELEBU short film competition sections of International Fiction, Regional Fiction and International Animation will be eligible for consideration in the Animation and Live Action competitions of the Academy of Cinematographic Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) without the theoretical course standard as long as the short film fulfills with the rules of the academy.

Festival Internacional de Cine de Lebu takes place in the city of Lebu, Capital of the Province of Arauco, and in the cities of Cañete and Concepción in the Bío Bío Region, Chile, from March 13-21, 2021.
