“The Recess” by Director Navid Nikkhah Azad competes in 49th CURTAS – Festival do Imaxinario in Spain, which runs from October 22-31, 2021.
“The Recess” marks its 47th international appearance in CURTAS – Festival do Imaxinario in Spain.
CURTAS – Festival do Imaxinario was born as the Amateur Film Festival of Vilagarcía in 1973. It’s a fantastic film festival specialized in Horror, Science Fiction and Fantasy which has been held uninterruptedly for 48 years in Vilagarcía de Arousa, Galicia, at the northwest of Spain.
CURTAS – Festival do Imaxinario is the film festival dean of Galicia and one of the contests with more tradition of Spain.
“The Recess” competes in the “Outros Xéneros Ficción” section of the festival.
“The Recess” tells the story of Seventeen-year-old Sahar, who is determined to watch her favorite soccer team play for the league championship. Barred from attending sports events as a woman, Sahar disguises herself as a boy with the help of her friends. Things take a tragic turn when Sahar’s disguise is uncovered.
Inspired by true events, “The Recess” explores gender oppression in Iranian society.
“The Recess” has been screened in 47 international film festivals, earning 7 awards.
