In the closing ceremony of the 11th Sarno Film Festival which took place on November 28 at the Municipal Theater of ‘Luigi De Lise’, the SFF organizers announced the winners in the official competition. The best short film award went to “L’Incontro Privato” by Alberto Segre. “Chiusi alla Luce” by Nicola Piovesan grabbed the audience choice award. “The Recess” by Navid Nikkhah Azad, and “Dajla: cinema and oblivion” by Arturo Dueñas won special mentions.

The statement of the juries of the 11th Sarno Film Festival is as follows:
The juries also considered it right to award an special mention to “The Recess” directed by Navid Nikkhah Azad with the following reason: “A film that can – with its poetic nature which is essential characteristics in the Iranian cinema – bring back a face, an experience. And in a certain sense of compensation, to Sahar Khodayari, the “Blue Girl”, who in 2019, at the prospect of serving six months in prison just for attending the stadium to cheer for her favorite team, responded with self-immolation. Sahar Khodayari died a few days later and became a symbol of the oppression perpetrated against women by the Islamic Republic of Iran. A martyr to whom this work pay a moving homage.”
