Tehran (NAVID AZAD) – ‘The Recess’ by Navid Nikkhah Azad won the best award at the 23rd Certamen de Cortometrajes University Short Film Contest in Spain.
‘The Recess’ has been selected as the winner in the General Category competition section of the 23rd Certamen de Cortometrajes, or University Short Film Contest ‘C.M.U. Santa María De Europa’ in Spain. The festival announced the award winners on April 25, 2022 at the Santa María de Europa Residence Hall in Madrid, Spain.
The University Short Film Contest ‘C.M.U. Santa María De Europa’ is an initiative that aims to support the production of short films by university students and encourage their professional development.
‘The Recess’ marked its 17th international award at the 23rd edition of the Certamen de Cortometrajes (Certamen Universitario de Cortometrajes C.M.U. Santa María de Europa) in Spain.
‘The Recess’ (‘El Recreo’) has been competed in 91 international film festivals including a number of GOYA and Oscar Qualifying festivals and is considered the most acclaimed short film from Iran in the past year.
‘The Recess’ brings the story of Sahar Khodayari (Iranian Blue Girl) to life.
The movie follows Sahar, a 17-year-old student who is determined to skip high school during recess to go to the football stadium to watch a football match between Esteghlal F.C. vs. Al-Ain as part of the AFC Champions League in violation of the national ban on women entering football stadiums in Iran.
The acclaimed movie has been picked for the main competition of notable international film festivals such as ‘Festival Internacioal de Cine de Lebu’ (Academy Awards Qualifying film festival), ‘Festival de Cine de Alicante’ (recognized by Goya Awards), ‘Santo Domingo Global Film Festival’ (accredited by FIAPF).
