“The Recess” (Spanish: El Recreo), directed by Navid Nikkhah Azad, has been honored with the prestigious “Freedom of Taste” award at the 4th Officine Social Movie in Italy.
This Spanish-Iranian short drama has garnered significant recognition worldwide, having been officially selected in 162 international film festivals, including FIAPF-accredited and Goya Awards qualifying festivals, as well as Academy Award® qualifying festivals. With an impressive track record, “The Recess” has already secured 32 awards for its outstanding storytelling and filmmaking.
Directed and produced by Navid Nikkhah Azad, along with co-producers Delia Guerra Parra and Mohammad Shahverdy, “The Recess” brings to life the poignant story of Sahar Khodayari, also known as the Iranian Blue Girl.
Inspired by true events, the film follows Sahar, a determined 17-year-old student who defies the national ban on women entering football stadiums in Iran.
In her pursuit of watching a football match between Esteghlal F.C. and Al-Ain as part of the AFC Champions League, Sahar’s courageous act challenges societal norms and sheds light on the power of determination and the pursuit of dreams.
