“The Recess” by Navid Nikkhah Azad has grabbed the Best Short Film award at the 15th edition of the Islantilla Cinefórum in Spain.
“The Recess” directed by Navid Nikkhah Azad has received the Luna de Islantilla (Moon of Islantilla) award for the Best Short Film at the 15th edition of the Islantilla Cinefórum, or Festival Internacional de Cine Bajo la Luna.
The 2022 Islantilla Cinefórum opened on July 2 in Islantilla (Huelva, Spain) and wrapped-up on August 27, 2022.
“The Recess” had earlier received 4 nominations for Best Short Film (Navid Nikkhah Azad), Best Director (Navid Nikkhah Azad), Best Screenplay (Navid Nikkhah Azad) and Best Artistic Direction (Mona Ramezani) at the Spanish event.
The Spanish-Iranian short drama “The Recess” has competed in 116 international film festivals including FIAPF-accredited, Goya Awards qualifying festivals and Academy Award® qualifying festival around the world and has won 22 awards.

Directed by Navid Nikkhah Azad and produced by Navid Nikkhah Azad and the Spanish producer Delia Guerra Parra, “The Recess” brings the story of the self-immolated Sahar Khodayari (Iranian Blue Girl) to life.
Inspired by true events, the movie follows Sahar, a 17-year-old student who is determined to skip high school during recess to go to the football stadium to watch a football match between Esteghlal F.C. vs. Al-Ain as part of the AFC Champions League in violation of the national ban on women entering football stadiums in Iran.
