“The Recess” by Director Navid Nikkhah Azad competes in 18th Progeny Short Film Festival in the US, which took place on October 2, 2021.
“The Recess” marks its 41st international appearance in Progeny Film Festival in the US.
Progeny Short Film Festival takes place annually in Blacksburg, Virginia, hosted by Virginia Tech’s School of Performing Arts.
The festival aims to provide a platform for independent filmmakers and students around Southwest Virginia.
Progeny Film Festival seeks to uplift filmmakers producing thought-provoking content showcasing a diverse range of styles, genres, and interests. While Progeny Short Film Festival is proud to uplift the local community, it also welcomes short films nationally and internationally.
“The Recess”, tells the story of Seventeen-year-old Sahar, who is determined to watch her favorite soccer team play for the league championship. Barred from attending sports events as a woman, Sahar disguises herself as a boy with the help of her friends. Things take a tragic turn when Sahar’s disguise is uncovered. Inspired by true events, The Recess explores gender oppression in Iranian society.
