“The Recess” by Director Navid Nikkhah Azad competes in International Short Film competition section at the 28th Adana Golden Boll Film Festival (Altın Koza International Film Festival), which runs from September 13-19, 2021 in Turkey.
“The Recess” marks its 38th international appearance in Adana Golden Boll Film Festival in Turkey.
Adana Golden Boll Film Festival is one of the most prestigious and long-established film festivals in Turkey.
Adana Golden Boll Film Festival was inspired by the legendary director Yilmaz Guney, the winner of Golden Palm for Yol (1982), at the wake of a new era which marked a divergence from the traditional cinema towards a political consciousness.
International Golden Boll Film Festival is organized by Adana Metropolitan Municipality.
“The Recess” tells the story of Seventeen-year-old Sahar, who is determined to watch her favorite soccer team play for the league championship. Barred from attending sports events as a woman, Sahar disguises herself as a boy with the help of her friends. Things take a tragic turn when Sahar’s disguise is uncovered. Inspired by true events, The Recess explores gender oppression in Iranian society.
