“The Recess” (Spanish: “El Recreo”) directed by Navid Nikkhah Azad has been selected to go on screen in the official program section of the 5th Festigol, Festival de Cine + Fútbol, which takes place in Santiago (Chile) from October 21-30.
Festigol® is an independent non-competitive Football Film and Documentaries Festival held in Santiago of Chile since 2016. It aims to create a space where football is shown as a creator of stories beyond the pitch demanding it as a social and cultural phenomenon in Chile as well as in the whole world.
The Spanish-Iranian short drama “The Recess” has been officially selected in 143 international film festivals including FIAPF-accredited, Goya Awards qualifying festivals and Academy Award® qualifying festival around the world and has won 23 awards.

Directed by Navid Nikkhah Azad and produced by Navid Nikkhah Azad and the Spanish producer Delia Guerra Parra, “The Recess” brings the story of the self-immolated Sahar Khodayari (Iranian Blue Girl) to life.
Inspired by true events, the movie follows Sahar, a 17-year-old student who is determined to skip high school during recess to go to the football stadium to watch a football match between Esteghlal F.C. vs. Al-Ain as part of the AFC Champions League in violation of the national ban on women entering football stadiums in Iran.
