“The Recess” by Navid Nikkhah Azad has received the L’OTTAVA ISOLA award of the organizing committee at the Milazzo Film Festival in Italy.
“The Recess” directed by Navid Nikkhah Azad has been honored with the L’OTTAVA ISOLA award of the organizing committee at the 7th Milazzo Film Festival, which wrapped-up on July 24th. Navid Nikkhah Azad’s short drama had earlier received nomination for the best international short film award known as “Scarabeo d’Argento”.
The Organizing Committee awarded its recognition to the Iranian Navid Nikkhah Azad who inspired his work “The Recess” to a real-life drama representative of gender oppression of women in Iranian society, according to cinemaitaliano.info.
The Spanish-Iranian short drama “The Recess” has competed in 107 international film festivals including FIAPF-accredited, Goya Awards qualifying festivals and Academy Award® qualifying festival around the world and has won 21 awards.

Directed by Navid Nikkhah Azad and produced by Navid Nikkhah Azad and the Spanish producer Delia Guerra Parra, “The Recess” brings the story of the self-immolated Sahar Khodayari (Iranian Blue Girl) to life.
Inspired by true events, the movie follows Sahar, a 17-year-old student who is determined to skip high school during recess to go to the football stadium to watch a football match between Esteghlal F.C. vs. Al-Ain as part of the AFC Champions League in violation of the national ban on women entering football stadiums in Iran.
