“The Recess” directed by Navid Nikkhah Azad has been selected to compete in the official competition section of the 5th Kurzfilmfestival Kufstein in Austria, which takes place in Kufstein on November 24, 2022.
This year, the “Kurzfilmfestival Kufstein” is exploring the cinematic vision of the concept of ‘Ordinary Heroes’. The program aims to highlight stories of people who don’t make the news. People who are not famous and admired by millions yet deserve to be praised for their selfless, strong, and kind actions that bring about miracles in their own lives or in the lives of others.
The Spanish-Iranian short drama “The Recess” has been officially selected in 155 international film festivals including FIAPF-accredited, Goya Awards qualifying festivals and Academy Award® qualifying festival around the world and has won 28 awards.

Directed and produced by Navid Nikkhah Azad and co-produced by Spanish producer Delia Guerra Parra and Mohammad Shahverdy, “The Recess” brings the story of the self-immolated Sahar Khodayari (Iranian Blue Girl) to life.
Inspired by true events, the movie follows Sahar, a 17-year-old student who is determined to skip high school during recess to go to the football stadium to watch a football match between Esteghlal F.C. vs. Al-Ain as part of the AFC Champions League in violation of the national ban on women entering football stadiums in Iran.
