“The Recess” by Director Navid Nikkhah Azad competes in 13th Grand River Film Festival in Canada, which was staged online from May 5-8, 2021.
“The Recess” marks its 20th international appearance at Grand River Film Festival in Canada.
Grand River Film Festival (GRFF) hosts local, Canadian, and international films, pairing screenings with panels consisting of directors, film professionals, local interest groups and notable guest speakers.

“The Recess” competes in the International Short Films competition section of the festival.
“The Recess”, tells the story of Seventeen-year-old Sahar, who is determined to watch her favorite soccer team play for the league championship. Barred from attending sports events as a woman, Sahar disguises herself as a boy with the help of her friends. Things take a tragic turn when Sahar’s disguise is uncovered.
Inspired by true events, The Recess explores gender oppression in Iranian society.
