The 20th Reality Bytes Independent Student Film Festival took place from April 12-14, 2021 in the U.S.
“The Recess” marks its 17th international appearance at Reality Bytes Independent Student Film Festival in the US.
Reality Bytes Independent Student Film Festival is a yearly festival sponsored by Northern Illinois University’s Department of Communication.
The Reality Bytes Independent Student Film Festival was established in 2001 by Laura Vazquez, professor of media production and theory at Northern Illinois University.
The festival aims to give high school and college students the opportunity to competitively screen their work.
“The Recess”, tells the story of Seventeen-year-old Sahar, who is determined to watch her favorite soccer team play for the league championship. Barred from attending sports events as a woman, Sahar disguises herself as a boy with the help of her friends. Things take a tragic turn when Sahar’s disguise is uncovered.
Inspired by true events, The Recess explores gender oppression in Iranian society.
