“The Recess” by Director Navid Nikkhah Azad competes in the 21st Nevada City Film Festival in the U.S., which runs online from August 27-September 12, 2021.
“The Recess” marks its 36th international appearance at Nevada City Film Festival in the US.
Nevada City Film Festival (NCFF) was founded in 2001.
For 21 years, it has brought top independent film, music and comedy, along with attracting thousands of attendees, international filmmakers, and industry guests to the historic town of Nevada City, California.
This year’s festival kicks off August 27 – September 12, 2021 in historic downtown Nevada City.
Nevada City is known for its sophisticated and supportive arts and cultural scene, and makes screening a film here a positive, encouraging and exciting experience.
“The Recess”, tells the story of Seventeen-year-old Sahar, who is determined to watch her favorite soccer team play for the league championship. Barred from attending sports events as a woman, Sahar disguises herself as a boy with the help of her friends. Things take a tragic turn when Sahar’s disguise is uncovered. Inspired by true events, The Recess explores gender oppression in Iranian society.
